Conversion formulas
CBSE: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5
AICTE engineering: Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10
Simple: Percentage = CGPA × 10- CBSE (× 9.5): used for CBSE Class 10 results under the CGPA grading system. The 9.5 factor comes from the average percentage of students who scored grade A1.
- AICTE ((CGPA − 0.75) × 10): a conversion suggested by AICTE for engineering and technical programmes.
- Simple (× 10): some institutions accept a straight multiplication when they have no formula of their own.

Why is CGPA multiplied by 9.5 in CBSE?
CBSE worked out that the average percentage of students scoring between 91 and 100 in a subject was about 95, which corresponds to grade point 10. So one grade point was taken as 9.5 percentage points.
How do I convert percentage to CGPA?
Reverse the formula. For CBSE, divide the percentage by 9.5. For example, 76% ÷ 9.5 = 8.0 CGPA.
Which formula should I use for engineering?
Use your university's own formula if it has one. If not, the AICTE formula (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 is widely accepted for technical courses.
Is CGPA the same as SGPA?
No. SGPA is the grade point average for one semester. CGPA is the average across all semesters so far.
